1Password for Linux 8.2.0 is now stable. Read on for a showcase of our new features since 8.1.0.

Account management

The account management screen, with one account present and the buttons for signing out and adding more.

We updated account management for this release. A new user interface makes it easy to see all of your accounts, sign out of individual accounts, and add new accounts.

The return of vault collections

The vault collections interface, with no collections present, and showing a list of vaults that can be added to a new collection

Vault Collections has returned!

This was a beta feature that we removed because it was just not quite ready. Now that we’ve had more time to test and debug it, Vault Collections is back to help you with organizing your vaults by context, by purpose, or by whatever other means you find helpful.

Quick Access

Quick access, showing the search interface with two results for Evernote

Quick Access made its debut only two weeks ago with the Mac early access release, and now it comes to the Linux stable release! You can use this to very quickly access your usernames and passwords, a feature I find very helpful when I’m working with desktop applications. With only a few keystrokes, I can easy get my password for Steam, Thunderbird, Minecraft, or AWS, depending on what I want to do right now.

Accessibility

Since the beginning of the project, keyboard support and visual clarity has been paramount. Our recent improvements bring similar focus to screen readers.

1Password for Linux requires an environment variable in order to enable support for screen readers. In your environment, set ACCESSIBILITY_ENABLED=1. If you run bash, you can set this for all Electron-based applications globally by setting it in your .bashrc script, like so:

ACCESSIBILITY_ENABLED=1
export ACCESSIBILITY_ENABLED

We are not done by far, and we are not letting our focus waver. Expect more improvements in each of our weekly releases.

Under the hood

In addition to these visible features, we’ve continued to do a lot of tuning under the hood.

  • We’ve improved a lot of the foundation to support upcoming new features
  • We’ve made communication between the desktop and your account on the server more robust
  • We’ve made a lot of improvements to 1Password interface and experience. We’ll continue to refine them in each update.

apt-get install 1password

See Get to know 1Password for Linux for installation and troubleshooting instructions for the stable version of 1Password, and 1Password Beta for the beta channel.

We maintain signed apt and rpm package repositories for Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, as well the Snap store. We also have a tar file for as-of-yet unsupported distributions. Let us know what distribution you use and how well 1Password works there.

We hope you are as excited about a 1Password Linux app as we are. To discuss this release, report issues, and talk with our development team, please join us in our Linux forum.
